Assam Rifle Vehicle Ambushed 02 Jawan killed
When we hear about attacks on our brave soldiers, it hits close to home for every Indian family. The Nambol Sabal Leikai incident that shocked the nation on September 19, 2025, reminds us why security in Northeast India remains a pressing concern for all of us.
On a quiet Friday evening around 5:50 PM, tragedy struck near Imphal. Two courageous Assam Rifles soldiers – Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap – lost their lives when terrorists ambushed their convoy.
The Nambol Sabal Leikai incident occurred on National Highway 2, just 8 kilometers from Imphal airport. Think about it – this attack happened so close to a major transportation hub that thousands of travelers use daily.
Here’s what makes this attack particularly concerning: the 33 Assam Rifles unit was simply moving from their Patsoi base to Nambol base when gunmen opened fire. About 40 bullets were sprayed at their mini truck, showing this was a planned assault.
Five other soldiers got injured but are recovering at RIMS hospital in Imphal. Their families, like many military families across India, now face the harsh reality of serving our nation.
The Nambol Sabal Leikai incident happened in Bishnupur district, which many don’t realize is a “denotified zone.” This means the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) doesn’t apply here, making security operations more challenging.
What’s more troubling? This attack came just days after Prime Minister Modi visited Manipur to promote peace. It’s like someone deliberately wanted to send a message that violence could strike anywhere, anytime.
The area connects Imphal valley with southern Manipur, making it a crucial route for both civilians and security forces. When such attacks happen on main highways, it affects everyone’s daily movement and sense of safety.
No group has claimed responsibility for the Nambol Sabal Leikai incident yet, but this reflects ongoing challenges in Manipur. Since 2023, the state has seen ethnic tensions between different communities.
Security forces have launched massive search operations to catch the attackers. However, experts believe that lasting peace requires more than just military action – it needs dialogue between communities and addressing root causes of conflict.
For ordinary citizens, incidents like the Nambol Sabal Leikai incident highlight why supporting our armed forces and promoting unity remains everyone’s responsibility.
The bottom line: While our brave soldiers continue protecting us, lasting peace in Northeast India will only come when all communities choose dialogue over violence.
