The Aadhaar card is one of the most important identification documents in India, used for banking, KYC verification, subsidies, and other government services. To ensure smooth access to these facilities, keeping your Aadhaar information accurate is essential. The Unique Identification Authority of India makes this process easy through the Aadhaar card online update service.
How to Do Your Aadhaar Card Online Update
Updating your Aadhaar details online is a quick and secure process that can be done from home using the UIDAI Self Service Update Portal. Here’s how you can change your name, address, date of birth, or mobile number step by step.
Visit the UIDAI website: Go to the official UIDAI portal and open the Self Service Update Portal.
Login using Aadhaar number: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the captcha code, then click on Send OTP. Use the OTP sent to your registered mobile number to log in.
Select the detail to update: Choose Update Demographic Data and then select the field you want to change, such as your name or address.
Enter correct information: Carefully type your new details exactly as they appear on your official document. Aadhaar name changes are allowed only once, so make sure the information is correct.
Upload supporting document: Provide a scanned copy of the required proof, such as your PAN card, passport, driving license, or voter ID. For address updates, the UIDAI now also accepts electricity or water bills as valid proof.
Review and submit: Double-check your details before submission. After submitting, you’ll get an Update Request Number to track the progress of your Aadhaar card online update.
The updated details are usually processed within a few days to a few weeks. You can later download your updated e-Aadhaar card directly from the UIDAI portal.
UIDAI’s New Digital Facilities
The UIDAI is also introducing a new digital system that auto-verifies details using government databases. A revamped mobile app will soon allow users to share digital or masked Aadhaar securely, eliminating the need for photocopies.
