The event has triggered a fierce political backlash, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of exploiting the situation to polarize Muslim voters for political gain. BJP leaders have characterized the project as a deliberate attempt to inflame emotions and consolidate vote banks, particularly with the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections on the horizon. The TMC has distanced itself from the event, claiming Kabir is acting as an agent of the BJP to provoke violence. The Calcutta High Court declined to intervene in the mosque’s construction but directed the state government to ensure law and order.

The feast was an important part of the gathering in Beldanga, with large numbers of people getting the Biryani. With such a large number of people, maintaining order was difficult.
