Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver Medal at Weightlifting World Championship: India’s Olympic champion Mirabai Chanu made a triumphant return to the international weightlifting stage by clinching the silver medal at the World Weightlifting Championships 2025 held in Forde, Norway. The star weightlifter’s outstanding performance in the women’s 48kg category ended India’s three-year medal drought at the prestigious tournament.

Championship Performance Overview

Competing in the 48kg weight division, Chanu demonstrated exceptional strength and determination by lifting a combined total of 199kg. Her performance included 84kg in the snatch category and an impressive 115kg in clean and jerk, marking a significant comeback after her fourth-place finish at Paris 2024 Olympics.

Despite facing challenges in the snatch segment with two failed attempts at 87kg, the Indian weightlifting champion showcased her mental toughness by successfully completing all three clean and jerk attempts at 109kg, 112kg, and 115kg.
