North Korea’s defending world champion Ri Song-gum dominated the competition, securing gold with a commanding 213kg total lift and setting new world records in both clean and jerk (122kg) and total weight. Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen claimed the bronze medal with 198kg.
This silver medal represents Chanu’s third podium finish at the World Weightlifting Championships, adding to her gold medal from Anaheim 2017 and silver from Bogota 2022. The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist proved once again why she remains one of India’s most decorated weightlifters, following her recent gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025.
