The electric scooter and bike market in India saw a slight slowdown in July 2025. According to industry data, electric 2 wheeler sales India fell by around 4% compared to the same month last year. While the overall market dipped, some brands still managed to post impressive growth.

EV Market Hits First Speed Bump of 2025

Sales in July 2025 touched 1,02,871 units, compared to about 1,07,654 units sold in July 2024. This marks the first year-on-year decline for the segment in the current financial year. Month-on-month, numbers also slipped slightly compared to June 2025.

Industry experts say the slowdown could be due to seasonal buying patterns, reduced subsidies for some models, and increased competition from petrol two-wheelers.

TVS Motor continued to lead the market for the fourth straight month, thanks to strong demand for its iQube electric scooter. Bajaj Auto followed closely with steady growth in Chetak sales.

The biggest surprise came from Ather Energy, which recorded a massive 59% jump in sales. Hero Vida also had its best-ever month, crossing the 11,000-unit mark for the first time.

Ola’s Fall From The Top

While some brands grew, Ola Electric had a tough month. Sales fell sharply by 57% compared to July 2024. Industry watchers suggest that factors like delivery delays, service complaints, and stronger competition from legacy brands may have played a role in the decline.

This shake-up in rankings shows that the electric 2 wheeler sales India market is becoming more competitive, with customers now having multiple strong choices.

Why Ather & Hero are Changing Ahead

Experts believe that consistent after-sales service, wider dealership networks, and product reliability are key reasons behind the success of TVS, Bajaj, Ather, and Hero. Ather, in particular, is expanding aggressively and plans to reach 700 retail outlets by March 2026.

The focus is also shifting from just range and speed to factors like charging infrastructure, financing options, and brand trust.

Future Outlook: Can Growth Rebound?

Despite July’s slowdown, analysts remain optimistic about the rest of 2025. The festive season later in the year usually boosts vehicle sales, and new model launches could bring more customers to showrooms.

The electric 2 wheeler sales India market is still in a growth phase, with more people exploring EVs as fuel prices stay high and awareness about sustainability increases.

For now, the July numbers remind the industry that growth will not always be a straight line — and adaptability will decide which brands stay on top.
